WHY EDUCATION?

Education is the cornerstone of economic development. A good education is a solid foundation upon which a child can build their life. It equips youth with the exposure, knowledge, skills, values, discipline and mindsets to transform into global citizens of the world.

58 million primary school-age children are denied the right to education. Of these, 25 million will probably never enter school if current trends continue.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, more than 1 in 4 children (31% of all girls and 23% of all boys) are excluded from education.

Today, it is girls who have the least access to education.

In sub-Saharan Africa, 56% (18 million girls) are at risk of never receiving an education.

In 2015, only 6% of young people in sub-Saharan Africa were enrolled in higher education institutions compared to the global average of 26%.

A one-year increase in average tertiary education levels would raise annual GDP growth in Africa by 0.39 percentage points, and eventually yield up to a 12% increase in GDP.

LITTLE CHILDREN, BIG DREAMS

Children around the world share the same desire to go to school. Yet, millions lack the opportunity to do so. Although more children are in school and learning than ever before, nearly 58 million children of primary school age are still out of school.

Let’s make sure every child has a fair chance to learn.
